2014 Resolutions

Welcome, 2014! Just as 2013 brought lots of changes and challenges, I expect that this upcoming year will involve more transitions, surprises, and adventures. I am so ready!

I made a few specific resolutions for 2013 that, while I didn't achieve in the exact way I had initially set out to do, I think I did a decent job of working towards. Project DC isn't completed, but I am still loving my city, adding new items to my list, and having fun experiencing the best parts of this place. I haven't run a 5K race, but I can now comfortably run 3.1 miles, I decreased my mile time, and I had a blast facing the New York cold for a Thanksgiving Turkey Trot-- my first "race!" As the hubs and I have made a concerted effort to cook more and expand our culinary abilities, we might have actually achieved my goal of making something from every cookbook we own, but I stopped keeping track pretty early on in the year (oops!). I definitely read some wonderful books this year, and I'm happy that I have my 100 Best Novels challenge to guide my future reading. So far it's been really fun! And the hubs and I accomplished my goal to travel more, both internationally and domestically. This is something we will continue to do in the coming year, and I look forward to discovering new places far and near.

So what will 2014 bring? Hopefully a completed dissertation and doctoral degree, a decision of which city will be home for the next six years, continued nurturance of friendships, and some more balance. If there's one thing I know, it's that we never truly, entirely know what the future will bring, and I have to find some peace with that. We just have to keep living life with as much intention as possible and see where life takes us.

As I set out on the adventures of 2014, I want to keep that word in mind: intention. I want to stay mindfully focused on what is important to me and choose actions that are in line with what I want to achieve. Let's see what wonderful things happen as a result!
